In a recent interview with Tween Dreemz magazine, Pokémon director Shigeru Miitomo stated that the Ultra Beasts available in the most recent Pokémon games are actually Alola-exclusive creatures that would have different forms in future generations.

“We thought, like, that because, like, Solgaleo and, umm, the moon bat one—what’s it called? ‘Moolala’ or something—anyway, we, like, thought that since, according to the story, those legendaries used to be Ultra Beasts, that like, um, that, like, maybe the current Ultra Beasts should be Pokémon in later games since they adapted to the, um, normal Pokémon world or whatever,” he said in Japanese.

He then pulled a polaroid out of the front of his pants that had an image of what appeared to be Nihilego flipped upside down with a big face on it and also another smaller face on it as well.

“You see this?” he said, winking in Japanese, “This is going to be what Nihilego becomes. I drew it myself yesterday and then I thought, ‘Wow,’ so, like, now it’s totally gonna be in the next game. I haven’t thought of a name yet, but maybe something like Craboo or like Boocrab. I dunno. I thought it looked like a scary crab, but my mind’s twisted like that I guess lol.”

He finished the interview by teasing the titles of the next generation of Pokémon games.

“They’re going to be called Pokémon Cat and Pokémon Dog,” he hinted, winking both eyes simultaneously.
